Pentagram

*The pentagram symbolises the number 5 and is a five-pointed star.

In England a knot tied in the form of the pentagram is called a lover’s knot because of this association with the goddess of love. In Manichaeism, a third century religion, 5 denotes a central position: the first man had five sons and there are five elements of light*.

The pentagram has been in use since 300BCE when it was used by many cultures, particularly in Judaism to represent justice, mercy and wisdom in christianity.

The five-pointed star, also commonly called a pentagram, has been in use for thousands of years by a variety of cultures. Most uses of the pentagram in Western society today descend from Western occult traditions.

Occultists have long associated the pentagram with several beliefs including:

the human body representing two outstretched arms, two legs, and the head,

the five physical senses of sight, hearing, touch, smell, and taste,

the earths elements of spirit, fire, air, water, and earth.
