Baphomet

* invented pagan or idol later embraced by various occult writers. The Knights Templar were accused of worshipping the Baphomet deity*.

Since 1856 the Sabbatic goat was known as the Baphomet with arms bearing the Latin words ‘solve’ meaning (dissolve) and ‘coagula’ meaning (coagulate) symbolizing the equilibrium of opposites.

The sabbatical goat was an original illustration by Eliphas Levi, French esotericist and author, who wanted to represent a combination of human, animal, male, female, good and evil components all in one statue with intentions of displaying notions of ‘balance’.

The Knights Templar have been linked to the Baphomet when Peter Partner states in his 1987 book (The Knights Templar And Their Myth): “In the trial of the Templars one of their main charges was their supposed worship of a heathen idol-head known as a ‘Baphomet’.
